This isn't exactly current news but worthy of some discussion. The Shortlist was the name for an award given by a select panel of noteworthy people to the best album of the year with under 500,000 in sales (past winners include two of my favorites, Sigur Ros and Damien Rice). Now the award is called the New Pantheon and this year's nominations come by way of a star studded panel including Elton John, Dave Matthews, Ben Gibbard, John Legend, Beck, ?uestlove, Pitchfork's Ryan Schreiber and Seth Cohen (seriously). The nominations have been whittled down to a very impressive list, but if you are curious you can go to the site to see each panelist's nominations. I loved the new Fiona and dug on Kings of Leon too, but I have no idea how you are supposed to pick between Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, Antony & The Johnsons and Sufjan Stevens. Who do you think should/will win?
THE FINALISTS
Animal Collective's "Feels" (Fatcat)
Antony and the Johnsons' "I Am a Bird Now" (Secretly Canadian)
Fiona Apple's "Extraordinary Machine" (Epic)
Arcade Fire's "Funeral" (Merge)
Bloc Party's "Silent Alarm" (Vice/Atlantic).
Death Cab For Cutie's "Plans" (Atlantic)
The Decemberists' "Picaresque" (Kill Rock Stars)
Kings Of Leon's "Aha Shake Heartbreak" (RCA)
M.I.A.'s "Arular" (XL/Beggars Banquet)
Sufjan Stevens' "Illinois" (Asthmatic Kitty)
put me down for Animal Collective

i have only heard "Grass"-thought it was good and enjoyed its scattered energy but thought i heard too much wolf parade (and a tad of shins in the verse instrumental arrangement).
what's another track worth listening to birdman?

"Loch Raven" (and not just because there's a bird in the title....)
