Emily Easterly @ Rockwood Music Hall 3/3/06

Though it doesn't take much to crowd the cramped quarters, Emily Easterly drew a vocal and devoted group of admirers (including Jakob Dylan and Jesse Malin) to Rockwood Music Hall on a bone-chilling night for a set of her edgy indie-pop.

While last year's Seasons Never Change served as an effective showcase for her haunting piano compositions, Emily’s guitar-based standouts like "Slow Motion Blink" and "Cobblestones" gain undeniable vitality with the dynamic drum set work of Sarab Singh (my brother! and he learned everything from me).  Wisely omitting bass, the pair's rapport and arrangements create a delicate and appealing chemistry.

I love Rockwood (as does Jerry), so there's no coincidence that last night’s performance was my favorite of the four I've seen from Em.  Fueled by the Hall's incredible sound, Ms. Easterly revealed the depth of her potential.

Definitely one to watch.
