The Strokes were incredible at Hammerstein Ballroom last night, probably the most impressive I've seen them since the early days. Head to Stereogum for my full review and the setlist, but here are some quick thoughts. Julian's relative sobriety (I've read that he still has the occassional one) and cigarette abstinence, along with an obvious band wide dedication to improvement has, in my mind, answered the questions many had about the lasting power or true talent of this band. The Strokes never go for the simple arrangement, they're constantly bringing more to the table as instrumentalists and are simply beautiful to behold. I can't say enough about this show.
Eagles Of Death Metal, whose Peace Love Death Metal I can't stop listening to, brought some serious crotch-rock antics. There isn't much room for them to evolve stylistically (indeed if it weren't for the strength of their debut's hooks, the entire album would sound like one long song), but I'll be glad to hear the new album when it drops.
Take the jump for more pics with The Strokes and Eagles Of Death Metal.

Amrit....Awesome job! Amazing photos and a great review. I was excited about the show to begin with and now i'm so stoked for the strokes show (alliteration aside).
Did they give you crap about the camera? I'm going on Saturday and don't want to risk getting it taken away. The tix said no cameras....but i was curious if they cared.
Also..you wouldn't happen to know anyone with an extra b&s ticket for friday night, would you?

Cheers jrapps!
As long as you don't bring a professional grade camera, you'll be in good shape.
Seriously awesome show.
Thanks benny!

Door opened around 6:45, openning band (torturous, btw) started at 8 and ended their set at 8:40, Stroke went on at 9:25.
There were camera flash popping everywhere. Smoking (anything) tolerated during the show. Only gripe would be food since they weren't selling anything else but the $6 chicken wrap. Show was awesome.
