Metric - "Monster Hospital" (MSTRKRFT remix) (MP3)
MSTRKRFT - "The Looks" (MP3)
Today's post is in honor of the MSTRKRFT gig at Hiro Ballroom tonight. I'm oddly excited for it. Jesse Keeler from Death From Above 1979 is one half of these vowel-phobic remixers. I've posted MSTRKRFT's amazing "Woman" remix before; now it's time to dig on what happens when Jesse gets a hold of Emily Haines and Metric's "Monster Hospital." (Yes, Jim, I know what'd happen if you got a hold of Emily Haines. Thanks.) It's more Studio 54 than the raunch staccato stomp of their Wolfmother take, but that's fine by me; I can still hear Emily, and the song is remix-worthy.
Because I think they'll be hitting us with more original than remix, the second MP3 is off MSTRKRFT's The Looks EP. Something tells me there'll be smoke, lasers and lots of kids drinking water. See you there.
[I'd also like to add that, despite initial aggravation, MSTRKRFT becomes much easier to type with practice. At first, it's like your fingers are a little kid, running top speed, you know, smiling and loving it. Then there's that foreign surface, with The Looks this kid has never seen before. And there's some stutter-stopping over that surface. It's actually kinda cute. But soon, with time, this scary wor(l)d devoid of "a" and "e" begins to make sense. And then this kid has the hang of it. And one day you wake up and that kid is a man, asking for your car keys, when all you want to do is spend some time with him. And then you'll wish he was, you know, still scared of "a" and "e." But he won't be. So cherish. That's all.]
