MP3 Masala: The Diggs - "Trouble Everyday" (Live @ Rothko)
Although there's much more current stuff to post (like how I saw a great Broken Social Scene set last night in a small bar in Brooklyn but forgot my camera battery, or how Land of Talk was supposed to sleep over last night but didn't, or how I saw Tokyo Police Club and Lovely Feathers and the indefatigable Grates night before), I didn't want to let this Diggs set (opening for Midlake at Merc Lounge) go by without at least a "|Pics" post.
I've posted The Diggs before. The tracks of theirs I've featured have received some of the greatest "man on the street" response of any artists I've covered, which is saying something. I don't have too much to add, aside from giving their live set my official seal of approval. This was my second time seeing 'em, but my first being moved. In the heap of NYC bands vying for your attention, it's well spent on this trio's old-school emo-meets-shoegaze sound.
Tim Lannen builds atmospheric guitars with his delay pedals, and some rudimentary bass and propulsive rhythms provide a solid backdrop for Lannen's emotive vocals. "It's Just Like You Say" and "Trouble Everyday" are huge tunes, and should sit squarely in the chest of nearly any listener, across any demographic. The new stuff sounds great too, though stylistically similar.
Tim mentioned the new album was coming together nicely, so we're excited about that. The MP3 above is from The Diggs site, a live version of "Trouble Everyday" with some Stone Roses teases for your enjoyment. Jump for more pics.
